Fused Biconical Taper (FBT) Optical Splitter Series

Fused Biconical Taper (FBT) Optical Splitter Series

An FBT optical splitter with selectable unequal or equal power ratios, dual or triple operating windows and compact passive packaging.

Product Features

  • Equal and asymmetric split ratios.
  • Low excess loss and low polarization-dependent loss in the listed grades.
  • Dual- and triple-window options.
  • Compact passive coupling structure.
  • Grade P and Grade A optical values for the defined ratios.
  • Listed operating temperature is -20°C to 70°C.

Fused Biconical Taper (FBT) Optical Splitter Series is produced by aligning multiple fibers, heating and drawing the coupling region, and monitoring the output until the required power ratio is reached. The method supports both equal and unequal ratios, including 50/50, 40/60, 10/90 and other listed divisions.

FBT splitters are useful where a defined wavelength window and nonuniform ratio are part of the optical design. They should not be substituted for a PLC splitter without checking wavelength range, port count, loss and packaging.

Selection & Configuration

Specify the exact split ratio, wavelength or windows, number of outputs, optical grade, package, lead fiber and connector/polish. Use the insertion-loss values for both ratio legs in the network budget, especially for asymmetric configurations.

Manufacturing & Customization

Huijue Group can review OEM FBT assemblies with ratio, wavelength, lead length, connectors and private-label packaging defined by drawing. Sample matching is possible when the target coupling behavior is documented; process capability, test tolerance, package and quantity require approval.

Information for an Accurate Quotation

  • Input/output count and split ratio
  • Operating wavelength windows
  • Optical grade and loss tolerance
  • Package, fiber leads and connectors
  • Test data, labeling and quantity

Applications

  • Passive optical power tapping
  • Monitoring and sensing branches
  • CATV and access-network distribution
  • Test setups requiring an unequal optical split

Installation Notes

Install the splitter inside a package that protects the fused region and provides fiber strain relief. The enclosure, not the bare splitter alone, determines moisture and mechanical protection.

Buyer Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Answers specific to Fused Biconical Taper (FBT) Optical Splitter Series selection, configuration and purchasing.

When is FBT preferred over PLC?

FBT is often considered for a defined wavelength window or an unequal power ratio; PLC is commonly used for broad-band uniform multiport splitting. The link budget decides.

Does a 10/90 splitter have the same loss on both outputs?

No. The two legs carry different power and have different listed insertion-loss limits.
